I seek intimacy with Him by giving Him the first fruits of my day. I wake up and get on my knees, literally, play some of my favorite worship songs and just soak up His presence. In this time I lay down every worry, burden, fear, potential distraction and everything I have to do that day. In return I recieve the fullness of His peace and I know that since I have surrendered, He will have His hand and favor on everything I do that day. After, I read a bible verse or an encouraging e-mail, usually from Joel & Victoria Olsteen, or Air 1's verse of the day, and I will journal. I lay out all my thoughts and my praise in words. I have committed to doing this almost every day of the week, and it has made a powerful change in my perspective and in the way I handle situations. I notice that I am not in such a hurry, and little things, like traffic do not worry me. This is because from the beginning of my day, I have surrendered it all to Him, and He makes it all work out for the good. I also read books that I believe will speak to me in whatever season I am in. It can be anything from, Reduce me to Love by Joyce Meyer, to focus on love and humilty to The Principles and Power of Vision by Myles Munroe, to see where I am headed as far as my career and education, centered and motivated by kingdom purpose. I believe in all these things, I am seeking Him. There is nothing greater, and more fulfilling than being alone with Him, not worrying about the time, with no other distractions or anything else on my mind. It is the best time, anytime.

I get closer to God through listening and singing praise and worship music on the radio. It is the best connection I feel when I am singing His praise! It is my special time with God, in my car!

Praise and worship does it for me...I luv to sing at the top of lungs in my bedroom alone, those are the moments when i feel him the most. all alone on my knees or on my face just worshipping Him. also interceding for the saints, the body, the church. The Holy spirit stirs my heart with prayer requests, then He blows me away with answered prayer. those moments push me further along in my walk. He is building my faith, as well.

(these are besides praying and reading the bible) I get closer to God through nature. It reminds me of His beauty and reminds me of how BIG and loving He is. It makes me want to get to know him better. I love being alone with God and meditating on the words of worship music, and truly worship. It makes me feel free to be who I am in God's prescence!

Well, I've always been aware of God and many factors through my whole life draw me to Him, but I never Got as close to Him as I am now.

Ideas of God, religion, boredrom, etc.. pushed me away from Him many times.

I looked for God through people, religious people and all I got was disappoinment.

For like two years I quit going to chuch, none of my new friends was a believer, or maybe they had their weak faith on hold, hidden like mine.

After I met the man of my life, I was happy as I heve never been in my entire life!

I began to go to church every now and then...I was too happy to ignore God.... I didn't see it coming... My heart, my selfesteem, my whole world was crashed with strife and confusion and my heart was broken like never before.

I cried myself to sleep for many many nights.... and in every night I called Him and our friendship/fellowsip began. Pain and loneliness can either make you bitter or can make you look up and cry out to Jesus.

I began to read my Bible and to watch on tv Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyer, Paula White, T.D. Jakes, etc...

My life will never be the same.

In my case, pain was "the catch" He defenitely called my attention and now pain has a different function in my life, when it comes of course it hurts, but FAITH in God and His word makes pain bring a purpose in my life and it doesn't last long, I have this in me already:
All things work together for good to those who love God and those who are called according to His pourpose.

Only God could do that.

That was my little testimony.

You want to draw near to God?
Listen to uplifting music, meditate on the word of God, find a good church, fellowship with believers, with people that has moving mountain faith and get infected!!!

Faith is contagious!!

I move closer to God in so many different ways, but i'll try to just name a few.

(1) Worshipping Him through song....singing to Him, the words of songs reminding me of who He is and what He's done for me.

(2) Talking with friends about how He has been speaking to them in their lives. Hearing stories of people moving towards Him on their journey.

for example....i was talking on the phone with my friend, Lauren, who's apartment was recently robbed. She was in the process of moving to another apartment, and she felt like God was speaking to her about simplifying her life. Simplifying in many ways....physically in getting rid of some the material things she had accumulated, and also weeding out some of the activities that were dragging her down and hindering her time with God.

As she was telling me the story of how God was working in her life and how she felt peace because of her obedience, i knew God was using her to speak into my life as well. I needed to simplify my life in some areas. I was spreading myself too thin as a wife, mom, friend, daughter, sister, middle school leader, small group accountability group, photographer trying to start a business, etc. By taking some things out that were not moving me closer to God (things that aren't necessarily bad, but not great for me at this season in life), i was able to hear God more clearly, spend more time with my Creator, and have excellence in however i served God.

So, talking with the people around us about their relationship with God helps us follow Him. God speaks to us through His Word, His Spirit, and through people. God did not intend for us to be on this journey alone. That's why it's so important to find people in your life who are on a growing relationship with Christ.

Here is one way that I enjoy drawing near to the Lord:

One of my favorite things to do is sit on my front porch and look at God's beautiful creation, and just talk to Him. I have been blessed with a great view[well alright, some of you might not think its that wonderful, but compared to the home I used to live in, it's great!]And when I just sit there, especially this time of year, and just graze up the sky and look at the trees swaying in the wind as I talk to my Lord and Savoir... there's nothing like it! Just as it says in the song, "How Great is our God": The earth will sing of His glory! I would love to have a magnificent view from a house high up on a hill, or right by a beautiful beach, but I feel blessed with what I do have now, I love just sitting there when the weather's nice and letting my Savoir know that I'm thankful for His awesome Creation!

Of course reading God's word is an important part of knowing who He is, yet my favorite time with God has always been my drive to and from school (usually a good hour or so). I'll turn up some praise and worship music and enter into His presense, or even turn down the music and just sing from my heart to His. I've gotta say, it's the best way to start off my morning...or to end a stressful day.

What I do to get closer to God. There are many things that I do to get closer to God. Pray, Obey, and Worship is what I've narrowed it down to.

Prayer is probably the biggest key for growth in my personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I believe in the power of prayer and more importantly I believe in the Word of God. Prayer is a time of speaking His word with authority, expecting results. It also is a time of yielding to Him, trusting that He is ultimately in control. Prayer is also a time of giving praise and adoration to my Creator. It also becomes a time that I ask for forgiveness and repent...It's His blood that makes me clean. Prayer for me is also a time to ask. Prayer draws me closer to God because it creates an intimacy with Him in all areas of my life.

Obedience draws me closer to God, too. The Bible says, "If you love me you will keep my commandments". Now I'm not perfect, but when I obey, it's just an outward expression of my love for Him. The more I put self down and allow spirit to obey; my spirit man strengthens, and as a result, I draw closer to God. When I walk in the Spirit(obedience), I reap everlasting life(nearness to God), if I walk in the flesh I will reap corruption(away from God).

Finally, the most dear to my heart that draws me closer to God is Worship. When I'm going through anything in my marriage, relationships, with my kids, financially, physically, ect the more I worship the Bigger God gets and the smaller everything else becomes. I feel like when I worship, I'm magnifying God and making Him bigger, and everything else just seems to fall to the waist side. In the midst of chaos, worshiping brings me closer to Him. The bible says, "He inhabits the praises of his people." I'd say that if God is inhabiting me, I'm pretty close to him! Worshiping for me also brings me into His presence. Once second in the Presence of God can change my life and ultimately it draws me closer.

Usually the Lord moves upon my Spirit in the middle of the night, which is when my heart seems the purest, the closest to Him and when I feel His divine presence with me. I have to get up and go write what He gives me, His words, right then. If I choose not to, I promise you He will keep working on my Spirit and will keep me awake all night. His word says, "But He gives more grace. That is why the scripture says: God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn, and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” James Chapter 4: Vs. 6-10

There is nothing like worshiping our savior and the power of God hits and you just stay in the moment for as long as He sees fit. God is truly amazing!

well for me it relly helps if i go somewhere quiet. i love it in my room because i can just get away from it all. you just sorta get into this state of mind and talk to God. just asking yourself as well if you honestly think he will like what you have been doing with your life, how you have responded to others, helped them, loved them. how you have loved yourself. and reflect on it for a while when speaking to him. it gives this feeling of calm that can take over all of your sences if you let it. and by the end of your conversation, you know peace , that he will forever love you the same way he did the day of his death and that with his help, you can do anything.

To get Closer to the Lord I go to a nice quiet park a few hours before school lets out. Ill take a 20 min stroll around the park and let Him speak to me. Then I sit down on a bench underneath a tree and read the Bible out loud. Whenever I go to the park I feel like I can connect with Him on a closer level because there aren't people around causing distractions. Its like He has me all to himself and I'm surrounded by His beautiful creations like the sun, clouds, flowers, butterflies, etc. I also feel like He is orchestrating the scenery around me and also His word I get from the Bible. Whenever I leave the park I feel His love for me overflow. Thank You Jesus!!!

There are so many ways to get close to God, getting into the word, just getting away from your day for a minute to have quiet time with him, though out your day just continually thanking him for the little things you see him doing in not only your life but also in other peoples lives, turning on some praise and worship music when your driving and rolling the windows down so you can really feel how beautiful this place is he created for us. Me personally i love to dance for him, i get some worship music on, i love Shane and Shane, i like to light candles, turn off the lights, and just dance. I love the time i get to spend alone with God, just worshiping him, i try to make it an intimate time, there is nothing more beautiful then when you are consumed with Gods presance, when you can feel a thickness in the air, and the peace and joy you feel is like nothing else.

When I feel myself distant from God, I take a walk. It separates me from the computers, papers, housework, and whatever else might be tempting me to not spend intimate time with Him. One morning, I started listening to a sermon online, but even that was not the intimacy I needed. I walked to a small chapel to pray instead. One evening, I walked to a local dock. Another evening, I walked around the recreational field on a college campus. I think the key to my intimacy with God is being completely honest with Him, whether I feel passionately angry at Him, passionately in love with Him, or passive toward Him. Taking a walk allows me to silence everything else in my mind and heart so that I can genuinely speak to and listen to God.

I read my Bible and pray. I think those are the top 2 things to do to get closer to God. How can you know God, if you don't talk to Him, and read His Word (His letters to us)? But, one thing I've learned- it takes more than Bible reading and prayer to be close to God. My everyday life has to be changed. After all, we were created to abide with God, not in the things/pleasures of this world. So, even the things I think and say and do, my habits, my view of life, have to change in order to please Him. When I let Him change me, He draws me closer to Him. There's a quote that says, "God has destined us for a higher life than the self-life". That life that the quote talks about is the life that is lived in God and through God.

For me lately I have struggled and struggled with the ability to even keep focus on who my creator was and who actually had all the answers. So when I got down, I realized that I needed to get back into the word. I started to go back to church and I didn't care what anyone else thought of me. I use to be so self concious about lifting my hands to my lord and savior during praise and worship, but not anymore. I have come to realize that the other people don't care about that at church, they are there to do the same thing; praise and honor our God. Every chance my pastor calls for somone in need of prayer to come to the alter, I go because not only does it bring me closer to God, it puts me in the presence of the holy spirit, and I leave church not only feeling refreshed, but knowing that all I have to do when I'm down is pray because my creator is NEVER too far away. Also, I personally find it helpful to create a diary directly related to God. (Ex: Dear heaveny father, ) Just explaining everything to him on paper, makes me feel so much better.

Some of the best worship songs out there are Keith Green's music. Amazing how many years since his tragic death folks are still tuning in to his tunes - he had a powerful message.

I paint. Painting helps me get closer to God in so many ways. First off, when I paint I feel His pleasure. Just like the man that runs in St. Elmo's Fire. It's a form of worship & prayer. Sometimes my paintings express joy and thankfulness for things in my life. Sometimes, they express struggles where healing is needed. Second, to stand back and see a finished creation just gives me such joy. It makes me so thankful to know that God gave me this very special talent. It has nothing to do with me, it's all Him. Since God has blessed me in this way, I also want to do the most with it and use it for His glory. I pray daily that he would do with it what He wants. His will, not mine.

I have found recently that when I start reading Scriptures and memorizing them that they awaken my spirit within me. I feel alive when I start coming to God in prayer and quoting His Word back to Him. It excites me and stirs up a new love and passion for Him deep within me! One of my favorite verses to start out with is Psalm 143:8-10 (NKJV) "Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, for in you do I trust. Show me the way in which I should walk for I lift up my soul to You. Teach me to do Your will for You are my God. Deliver me O Lord from my enemies, in You I take shelter. Your Spirit is good, lead me in the land of uprightness." This is a great prayer to start my day off with and another way that I get close to God is by just listening to Him. Prayer is not a monologue, its a dialogue. There must be a given time of listening as well as talking. The more listening we do the more we will know the direction He is leading us in and what His plans are for our lives.

I take time to talk with God throughout the day. I try to see Him in the good and bad, and ask for Him to show me the world through His eyes. I read the Bible daily and am lost constantly in thought about His plans for my life and the things He has taught me. And most of all I ask Him to help me grow closer to Him, relying on Him in everything I do. I want people to see Him through me..though I will never be worthy of that, He is worthy enough to be shown to the world. I want a relationship with my God, not a religion.
